ghost notes

Ghost Notes is an art piece attempting to give spatiality to sound— specifically, to Beethoven's Pathetique Sonata. This work aims to show the time spent in the process of playing that sonata in a visible and semi-mathematical way. In preparation for this work, I first learned the full sonata, masked off each individual key on my piano with masking tape, and chose a color of ink for each finger number. The end result is a colorful interpretation of the music, showing both the notes played and finger distribution across the keyboard.
